Following that, from 1971 when the industry began to streamline, at the present location in Odate City, we began production in cooperation with other breweries. In 1985 we joined the Sekai Taka Koyama-ke Group of brewers, and since then have with the underlying idea of "brewing sake that our customers will enjoy."

Origins of the name:
The name Hokushika North Deer was created by taking the first character of the two townships, Kita-Akita-gun and Kazuno-gun. It embodies the feeling of prancing wild deer of the north.

Brewery History and Background:
The brewery was founded in 1873, and prospered together with the nearby Osarizawa mining region. The sake received an honorable award in the 1938 National Sake Competition, and has received top prizes in post-war Akita Prefecture tasting competitions as well. We faced a crisis when the sake industry in Kazuno region began to streamline, but in 1987 we secured our future. In 1991, the local sake industry came together, and we took a new step toward our future as a newly formed company.

Origins of the name:
Our founder, Mosuke Tamura, named the sake Chitose, or "one thousand years," to express his wish for immortality. In 1922, the name was changed to Chitose-zakari, to express our wish to flourish sakari.
